Clydesdale Picture

Initially developed to carry armor into the battlefield, Scottish farmers later produced this heavy horse with a large hoof suitable for working on the soft soils. In their height of popularity during the 19th century, Australia, Canada and the United States imported them in large numbers.

These horses should have action and endurance. The forelegs must be under the shoulders. The hind legs must be similar, and the pasterns long. The breed has a broad head with a wide muzzle, large nostrils and bright, intelligent eyes.
