American Quarter Horse

An american quarter horse owner will have many baby pictures. The breed was probably named after a distance it was best at. The breed is famous for its stocky build, well-muscled body, and graceful appearance. Some breeders prefer to keep speed as a primary requisite of the breed and specialize in equines for racing; others breed for ranch work and never participate in shows for purebreds. The most prominent color of the breed is sorrel (brownish red.) Other colors accepted in this bred are bay, black, brown, buckskin, chestnut, dun, red dun, gray, grullo, palomino, red roan, blue roan, bay roan, perlino and cremello. This is considered to be the first breed native to the United States. It was developed in the southwestern part of the United States. The foundation stock originated from Arab, Turk, and Barb breeds. The early 1600s is claimed to be the time of the breed’s development. The result of the breeding program is a compact, heavily muscled animal, perfectly suited for short-distance racing. Generally speaking, there are two types of this breed: the old-fashioned “bulldog” type and the “racing type.” This breed runs a short distance faster than any other breed. An american quarter horse owner will have many baby pictures.
